Where in process to perform inspections (2/5)

At what stage(s) in the reprocessing workflow do you want to perform inspections?
Whether
implemented in a sterile processing department or GI / Endoscopy unit,
there are two common stages at which inspections are typically
conducted:
- Dirty Side
- Clean Side.
Dirty side inspections
- Near the sink following manual cleaning.
GREAT for:
- Ability
to readily re-clean and re-inspect, helping to ensure no major damage,
bioburden or other debris prior to HLD or sterilization.
CHALLENGED by:
- Distracting water droplets and moisture.
Clean side inspections
- After HLD, prior to sterilization, or before storage.
GREAT for:
- Final inspection for bioburden or damage prior to patient use.
- Inspections are much easier without significant moisture present like on the dirty side.
CHALLENGED by:
- If
dirty side inspection did not occur or resolve all bioburden or debris,
the device will have to be sent back to manual cleaning.
